Weiss comes off as both insufferable and stupid in that memo. Does she really believe that any member of the trump administration is going to go on record explaining their likely illegal actions in shipping these men out of the country to a concentration camp after a judge ordered them not to? Pretty sure their lawyers would strongly advise they didn't.

Weiss was hired to be a propagandist for the regime. This Memo shows she's doing what it takes to keep her job.

note that she offers to share Miller and Honan’s cell phone numbers. What a strange admission!

on the charged vs convicted thing, I guess current charges can be a reason to detain someone, but if pending charges were justification to send someone to CECOT, we'd be in even more trouble than we're already in. None of her points were good but I found that bewildering as an argument.

The point she makes about how some of the people kidnapped and sent to a foreign torture prison may have been possibly guilty of crimes is the most insane one to me. The Trump admin stated that all the people renditioned were terrorists. If journalists found out that one of them wasn’t, that would be a major scandal, but it turns out that there’s reason to believe that none of them are guilty of anything!! Again, the only positive to come from this is that another Trump apparatchik has been shown to be a total moron. Imagine if these people were competent!

Bari Weiss doesn't know about reporting. All she knows is punditry.

And the memo shows the hollowness of her punditry: rely on empty formalism to try to recast things in a way that looks objective and non-partisan, while ignoring what plain, verified facts indicate about this MAGA administration in particular and the contemporary right in general.

Weiss despises DEI, yet her incompetence and ignorance might reveal her as a DEI hire...

That’s what I said when she was first hired! How else does one explain a person hired for a job whose resume should be in the stack bound for the recycling bin?

Oops. The complete version. In a colossal fuck up, Mightn't it have been more accurate to say "In a colossal act of providence"?

Now, good, honest reporting does not require dilution or weakening the focus of reporting by seeking out lies to insert.

In this case, on top of that, there’s already literally court-certified documentation of the administration’s lies regarding all this.

Note that the above is meant to imply Weiss is, in any universe, acting like a professional.

OTOH, my opinion in the prior two paragraphs has as much professional rigor as Weiss’ given that I have as much relevant professional experience as she, to wit, none. Or I might have more having lived for a couple of years, a couple of blocks away from Cronkite.
