Dear Unpopular Front Readers,
Yes, it’s that time again.
As you may know, Elon Musk has made a bunch of very annoying changes to the Twitter algorithm that makes it very difficult for Substack links to be shared widely. I’m also spending much less time on that platform because I’m focusing on my writing and it’s declined in quality a great deal. As a result, the constant trickle of paid subscribers that I once could count on to maintain the newsletter's healthy growth has almost totally dried up. So, unfortunately I have to regularly send free subscribers these appeals.
Unlike some other Substackers who received lucrative deals from the company to come to the platform, Unpopular Front is totally reader supported. If you regularly read and enjoy the newsletter I ask that you please strongly consider opting for a paid subscription. And I particularly appeal to those in the journalistic profession who might use this as a helpful resource for their own posts and stories. For a limited time, I’m offering a 20% discount off annual subscriptions — combined with the fact that a yearly subscription already gives you a free month, that adds up to a three whole months free. That comes out to less than 4 dollars a month! Surely, that’s a not such a bad deal for writing and commentary you can’t get anywhere else.
With a paid subscription you will receive regular “Reading, Watching” posts containing my book, film, article, and podcast recommendations. You will also be able to comment on posts, ask me questions for the Mailbag posts, and join the extremely smart and interesting community that has grown up around the newsletter. Plus, you will never receive one of these emails again!
Once again, thank you for reading and thanks for your continued support,
John
