Thanks for writing about this. Most countries around globe excluding Europe and US support Russian cause. They don’t understand why America wanted to support Ukraine. They don’t want Ukraine in EU, they’re against EU expansion. That is why Putin speech is more followed around globe, Africa specially developed more sympathy for Russia. Russia is back to influence African countries. There’s another issue that Carlson said which is true, Putin and Russia is angry of being excluded from Europe. They had centuries of influence & connections with Europe, now they don’t sell gas to EU, they had terrible sanctions. Carlson told their stories. It was needed interview but that won’t change Russian Leadership. Putin will lead Russia till they find another probably worse then Putin. For now Putin is respected certain part of the world.

Economist Noah Smith on his Noahpinion Substack analyzed the same Putin infomercial last week.

Smith has been dabbling in foreign policy lately, and what he wrote is interesting: "This is a kind of imperialism that people in the U.S. are not used to thinking about. Mostly, when we Americans think of empires, we think of either the British or the Nazis — most of the fictional empires we depict in media, like the one in Star Wars, are just a mashup of those two. We therefore think of imperialists as being motivated primarily either by commercial interests and resource extraction, or by insane ideologies. But we rarely think about ethnic imperialism — an empire trying to gobble up neighboring polities because of linguistic and cultural similarity, so that it can be the ruler of a specific cultural sphere. "

Capturing Ukraine is a prelude to Putin wanting to make NATO flinch, and has designs on retaking the Soviet bloc and maintaining far-right parties in Western Europe.
