This is great. I'm curious about which pundits or media outlets you think exemplify this sensibility. But I also don't want you to get in trouble.

An aspect of reflexive non-conformism in politics, and one I find quite irritating, is the almost explicit longing for the purity of utter powerlessness.

The above _could_ be used as a rejoindered excuse for any level of corruption or brutality, but kept away from slippery slopes by fences sturdy and well-placed…. (See!? it's _simple_.) (I didn't say 'easy'.)

Excellent distinction. Chapo is great at diagnosing but they too easily devolve into populist conspiracy nonsense. Instead of Hilary eating babies it’s HW Bush killing JFK.
