Received the book today. Read the wonderful simultaneous reviews yesterday. Deep congratulations to my brilliant former student!!!
But I wanted very much to add a long essay beginning with a mention of you to one or both of my Substack blogs, "William's Newsletter" (which I can't seem to cancel) and "Everdell's hard-to-publish History." I tried twice, pushing "Save," but my piece failed to get attached to my site. How about some technical advice for an old fan.
Well Lo and Behold. I found another button on "Everdell's hard-to-publish History," clicked it and up came "How the United States Came to think of Its Presidents as the Makers of Law." Bingo, John, I hope you'll read it.
The book is really good John. I think what's different from a lot of other books on the history of the modern right wing in the US is that it's very accessible for people who don't necessarily read about the history of the modern right. You're a great story-teller. But then we already knew that.
You couldn’t ask for a better NY Times review. Looking forward to reading your book.
You're gonna sell about a million of these, can't wait to see it.
When my pre-order arrives it will go on my shelf next to Chaotic Neutral

I've been meaning to pre-order. Finally did. I can't wait to read it!
Congrats, John!! Well-deserved notice and praise. 🙌🙌

Don't want to rain on the celebration, but are gift links available? I hate the NYT with a passion! Peter Baker and Maggie Haberman suck! Thanks.
Sorry, I just noticed that you tweeted gift links! Thanks, and I hate Musk even more than the NYT.
With you on Musk but not on Baker and Haberman. Hard to look a gift horse in the mouth.
I pre-ordered! Looking forward to reading it.
Hoping it arrives in Japan in due course!
