Tracks with what people have reported about her and her father's obsession with family ancestral greatness that she was supposed to restore, like a eugenic literalism that got translated into her fantasy of a blood-purifying patch.

FUCK I DIDNT EVEN THINK OF BLOOD AS A METAPHOR!!!

Yeah she's not marrying "good stock" she's purifying the family blood by inventing a genius device to disinfect everyone's blood.

I read Cortelyou’s response in the Times and he is certain she is lying when she says she doesn’t understand the humor in the Who’s on First routine. He points out she does the same “staring straight at you” tell when she’s lying.

there's a bit of hesitation there, and on her noncommital answer on the "did you know i would be here" phone call - both can be read as awkwardness or running probabilities as to how best react in character

I always felt that I understood everything about Holmes' psyche when they published her notes from a luxury hotel room in Singapore

A set of instructions for a human LLM, of sorts. Anything outside the training set does not compute.

a small but important catch - Billy is not her current "husband", rather her partner. I think the fact that they're together with two children but remaining unmarried is close to an admission of guilt, along with the power of attorney thing - she wants to continue in the Theranos vein without accumulating any assets in her name that would be subject to her creditors. He "has his own business"... he can own the assets as long as she keeps committed to the subsumed personality persona.

I fully believe she's deluded herself in the split way, but it also looks very convenient

Very interesting take on the film. It made me realize how closely the movie relies on the specificity of words and how people use them, almost like drama rather than documentary film. Which was also why I was distracted in the second half of the film by reflexively wondering if certain exchanges were scripted by the filmmakers.

That was especially the case with Evans. Because he is fairly canny about the way he presents himself in the first half, I couldn't quite believe that he voluntarily said so many things that exposed him as a titanic asshole. But maybe if you record countless hours of things that a pervert says, you are going to catch him saying self-indicting things.

Regarding Fielder, have you read Tom McCarthy's novel Remainder? It's like the literary fiction precursor to The Rehearsal, somewhat (and is independently excellent). I wrote something about it a while back that might be interesting: https://www.wastebooks.org/posts/2013-01-20-remainder-is-a-book-about-beisichsein/

I don't think this is a particularly constructive comment.
